Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), Durg district has performed excellently and secured first place in the entire Chhattisgarh. Under the guidance of Collector Abhijeet Singh and the continuous monitoring and team spirit of District Panchayat CEO Bajrang Kumar Dubey, the district has set new records in housing construction. From the financial year 2016-17 to 2024-25, Durg district had received a target of total 41,666 houses, out of which 92.6 percent houses have been approved. The second instalment has been issued to 95.9 per cent of the beneficiaries, while the construction of 70.6 percent houses has been completed.

Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 90 days of employment has been provided to 86.2 per cent of the beneficiaries, which is the highest in State. In the financial year 2024-25, the district had received a target of 12,788 new houses. To achieve this target, secretaries, employment assistants and technical assistants were appointed as nodal officers in the gram panchayats. Along with this, ‘Awas Mitras’ were appointed and given necessary training, so that the beneficiaries could get help at every stage of housing construction. Masons were trained and women of self-help groups were made coordinators and made participants in the construction work. Problems related to construction material such as labour, centring plate, water supply etc. were resolved quickly at the local level.

In villages with large construction work, centralized storage of material was made easily available to the beneficiaries. This system of Durg district is now emerging as a model for the entire state of Chhattisgarh. CEO Bajrang Dubey said that this is the result of collective efforts. The instalment amount was transferred daily according to the progress at each level. The work was monitored by organizing review meetings in all the Janpad Panchayats, which ensured the achievement of the target.
