After playing successfully vice president’s role at the Gwalior Cricket Division, Mahanaryaman, son of Jyotiraditya Scindia, elected unopposed as the new President of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) on Tuesday during Annual General Meeting. He became the youngest to hold the post in the body’s 68-year history. After offering prayers at Indore’s Khajrana Ganesh Temple, new chief of MPCA called “It’s an emotional moment.”
The meeting was attended by his father and seven-time association’s president, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. In the MPCA polls, all the office-bearers were elected
unanimously. Besides Mahanaryaman, Vice-President Vineet Sethia, Sudhir Asnani, a former international umpire, took charge as the Secretary. Sanjeev Dua took over as the Treasurer. Former India women’s cricketer Arundhati Kirkire becomes Joint Secretary.
The MPCA presidency can be seen as launching pad of politics. Mahanaryaman was made a lifetime member of the MPCA in 2022 and also serves as President of the Madhya Pradesh T20 League (MPL), whose first edition took place in Gwalior in 2024.
Mahanaryaman became the third-generation member from the Scindia family to take charge of MPCA. His grandfather, late Madhavrao Scindia, and father Jyotiraditya have both served as MPCA presidents.
Late Madhavrao was 37 when he first took charge, Jyotiraditya was 35 when he bested Kailash Vijayvargiya in a fiery 2004 election. By contrast, Mahanaryaman’s ascent has been smooth. With no other contenders filing nominations, his election was a foregone conclusion.
“My
grandfather and father both served this association. MPCA is a family. Decisions are taken together. I will try to promote cricket at the rural level
and create more opportunities for daughters in the game, he said.
He also played crucial role in launch of the Madhya Pradesh Premier League Scindia Cup, a franchise-style competition modelled loosely on the IPL that injected fresh energy into the State’s cricketing calendar.
“Taking blessings of the Lord before every auspicious work is our tradition and part of my family heritage. I prayed for the progress, prosperity, and welfare of the nation and the state. It is a proud moment that Mahanaryaman has been elected as MPCA president,” he stated on social media.
