The monsoon has turned active once again in Madhya Pradesh. Under the influence of a monsoon trough and two cyclonic circulations, most of the divisions, including Jabalpur, will experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the next three days. The impact will be most prominent in Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Indore and Jabalpur divisions. Owing to continuous rainfall in adjoining areas rivers and nullahs are once again in spate with flood-like situation emerging in several areas. Similarly, due to continuous rainfall in the catchment area, Bargi Dam administration on Thursday opened 15 gates of the dam, leading to a flood-like situation in river Narmada.

The rising water level has submerged ghats, temples and low-lying areas along the river, forcing officials to issue alerts. Following the conditions, shopkeepers have started emptying out their shops, as water reached their establishments. Meanwhile, the Weather Department on Thursday issued warnings of heavy rainfall in some districts. So far, the State has recorded 39 inches of rainfall, surpassing seasonal average of 37 inches. Jabalpur has received 1057.2 mm (41.62 inches) rainfall. Spokesman of Weather Department informed that a well-marked low-pressure area is active over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north Odisha coast. The associated cyclonic circulation is effective up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and is tilting south westwards. It is likely to move in a west-northwest direction across north Odisha, adjoining Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh. At present, monsoon trough extends from Bikaner, Jaipur, Damoh, Pendra Road, Sambalpur up to the Bay of Bengal. In addition, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is active over south Haryana at 1.5 km above mean sea level, while another circulation is seen over Vidarbha between 5.8 and 7.6 km altitude. It may be mentioned that a western disturbance is also active over north Pakistan and adjoining Punjab, further intensifying rainfall activity.
