NAGPUR’S seasoned senior international shuttler Kiran Makode and women’s doubles pair of Manjiri Dhoke and Manisha Bhawatkar are representing India in the prestigious BWF World Senior Badminton Championships, under way in Pattaya, Thailand.
The event is one of the largest ever, featuring 1,631 players from 53 nations, across multiple age categories in men’s and women’s singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.
The matches will be staged at the Eastern National Sports Training Centre.
Makode, whose remarkable performance at the Goa Nationals secured him a berth in the national team, will
compete in the 55+ mixed doubles category alongside partner Poonam Tatwawadi from
Bhopal.
Makode-Poonam received a first round bye and will open the campaign against R Jackson and G Anderson of England in
second round on Tuesday.
Makode is the only player from Nagpur to achieve the distinction of being selected for the Indian team a record eighth time at the BWF World Senior Championships. He has also represented India in the Foo Kok Keong Cup Team Championships in Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
Manjiri-Manisha are competing in 40+ women’s doubles. They have also received first round bye and will play Round of 32 match on September 10.
