THE Chhattisgarh Government’s School Education Department has announced the formal conclusion of the Assistant Teacher Direct Recruitment 2023, stating that the entire process was carried out in strict compliance with orders of the Supreme Court of India and the Chhattisgarh High Court, and that no further phase of appointment is legally or administratively feasible.

The department clarified that an advertisement for 6,285 Assistant Teacher posts was issued on May 4, 2023, and the Vyapam-conducted examination results were declared on July 1, 2023, with a validity period of one year. At the time of the advertisement and declaration of results, no judicial restriction existed barring B.Ed-qualified candidates from eligibility.

Under the first four phases of the recruitment process, cutoff-based selection lists were published on September 8, 2023, September 21, 2023, January 30, 2024, and March 4, 2024. Through these phases, 5,301 Assistant Teachers were appointed, including 2,621 B.Ed-qualified candidates. However, in Writ Petition No. 5788/2023, the Chhattisgarh High Court, by order dated April 2, 2024, declared B.Ed-qualified candidates ineligible for the Assistant Teacher post.

Following this order, the department immediately suspended further recruitment stages, and the original validity of the examination results expired on July 1, 2024. In compliance with the High Court’s directions, the School Education Department issued an order on February 24, 2025, extending the validity of the selection list for 2,621 posts up to July 1, 2025. Pursuant to this extension, the fifth phase of recruitment was conducted during March-April 2025, wherein 2,615 D.Ed-qualified candidates were included on merit against vacancies created by removal of B.Ed appointees, with cutoff ranks lowered across all major categories.

Out of these 2,615 candidates, 1,316 were either absent during document verification or found ineligible, while appointment letters were issued to the remaining 1,299 candidates. The department stated that this completed full judicial compliance. The government further noted that demands for a sixth phase are untenable, as the extended validity of results expired on July 1, 2025, and remaining claimants fall below the exhausted cutoff ranks.

It also pointed out that High Court petitions related to Teacher and Lecturer posts under the same recruitment have already been dismissed. Citing judicial finality, administrative constraints and the need to facilitate future recruitment for newly eligible aspirants, the department stated that closure of the Assistant Teacher Direct Recruitment 2023 is lawful, justified and unavoidable.
