To avoid rebellion before the municipal elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took cautious steps and avoided releasing the list of probables. The BJP had a large number of capable contenders from each ward. Although the process was implemented, the party could not finalise the final candidate for six seats in the city till the last day of the filing of the nomination. According to sources in BJP, two candidates were fielded for six seats to pacify the aspirants. As per rule, the candidate who filled the form first is likely to become the official candidate.

two applicants for six seats

After this incident came to light on Tuesday morning, the candidates from the two places immediately checked the legal nitty-gritty and went to the municipal office of the respective zone with the documents and filed the nomination papers. The candidate who filed the application first will be considered the official candidate of the party. Meanwhile, various discussions are taking place within the BJP due to this incident. It could not be decided which of the capable candidates should be given tickets for the respective seats.

Therefore, both of them were given AB Form 3. The question is being raised whether this was done to satisfy one candidate. In Prabhag 1C, reserved for Open (Women), Deepali Bute filed nomination as BJP candidate along with former corporator Pramila Mathrani. When asked, Vicky Kukreja made it clear, “Bute has made it clear that she has not received AB Form. So, she can’t be the official candidate of BJP. Pramila Mathrani is contesting from Open (women) category on BJP ticket.

What is AB Form

At many places, former corporators and office-bearers of the Opposition parties are shying away. At some places, agreements are being made in the form of ‘our candidate is yours, yours is ours’, in which the AB Form is decisive. Whoever gets the AB Form is given the official symbol of the party concerned.

What is A Form

The AB form is an important document for finalising a party and its official symbol. A Form is an official document of the approval from party concerned. A Form is signed by the person authorised by a party to distribute tickets. B Form is an official candidate document. Along with an official candidate, there is also the name of another candidate proposed by the party. If, for some reason, the application of the first candidate gets rejected, the Election Commission can make the second candidate official. A candidate who mentions a party in the application form must submit an AB Form. Otherwise, his application is rejected and the court does not accept his/her claim.

Reason for issuing B Form

Political parties provide A Form to their official candidates. It has to include information about the candidate’s name, position in the party, and from which constituency the party’s official candidate is. While filing the nomination form, many documents and affidavits have to be carefully submitted. Sometimes, even after the official candidate files the application, if some errors are found during the scrutiny, the application may be rejected. Due to this, the official candidate of the party is out of the fray. In such cases, B Form is given by the political parties so that there is an alternate candidate of the party. In B Form, names of 3 alternate candidates along with the first preference candidate are mentioned. If the application of the official candidate gets rejected during verification or he/she withdraws the candidature, the alternate candidate can contest the election as the official candidate of the party concerned. istricts.
