THECity of Lakes, a vibrant blend of Nawabi heritage and modern flair, welcomed the arrival of 2026 with unparalleled energy and enthusiasm. As the clock struck midnight, the city skyline was set ablaze with a kaleidoscope of fireworks, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the capital’s residents. The iconic Boat Club and VIP Road remained the heart of the celebrations. As dusk fell, thousands gathered along the banks of the Upper Lake.

Braving the winter chill, groups of youngsters were seen dancing to rhythmic beats, and the air echoed with chants of ‘Happy New Year’ the moment the countdown ended. In a unique display of festive spirit, many chose to ring in the year aboard decorated cruises and boats, celebrating amidst the serene waves of the lake. The city’s premier hotels and clubs hosted themed extravaganzas featuring Bollywood hits and EDM tracks.

Live bands and renowned DJs kept the dance floors packed until the early hours. Families were seen indulging in specially curated gala dinners and cake-cutting ceremonies, sharing moments of joy and togetherness. To ensure a peaceful celebration, the Bhopal Police deployed over 1,600 personnel across strategic locations. Stringent checks were conducted at major intersections like 10 Number Market, MP Nagar, Bittan Market, and Gulmohar.

Police utilised breathalysers to curb drunken driving incidents, maintaining a visible presence to deter any untoward activity. While the youth danced the night away, a significant section of the city sought divine blessings to begin the year. Long queues of devotees were witnessed at the Curfew Wali Mata Temple, Birla Temple, and Gufa Mandir.

Special Aartis were performed at midnight, with citizens praying for peace, prosperity, and health in the coming year.
The celebrations took a more traditional turn in Old Bhopal’s Chowk and Ibrahimpur areas, where residents gathered around bonfires on rooftops to enjoy local delicacies.

Similarly, in Kolar and Gulmohar, residential colonies organised community get-togethers, fostering neighbourly bonds. As the city wakes up to the first dawn of 2026, the festive spirit is expected to continue at Van Vihar and local parks, which are slated to see a heavy influx of picnickers throughout the day
