A pall of gloom descended on Nagpur’s medical fraternity as renowned Neurosurgeon Dr Chandrashekhar Pakhmode passed away due to heart attack on Wednesday morning. The death of Dr Pakhmode was shocking to masses as he was only 55 years old and very much fit. According to his near ones, in fact he had attended a get-together of the friends the previous night and nobody saw any serious symptoms of any ailment in him. The passing away of Dr Pakhmode, the Director of Neuron Hospital, touched masses as he was a pillar of Nagpur’s medical field, who brought thousands of patients back from the brink of death with his expertise.
 
His passing is an irreparable loss not only to the medical field but also to the society. He is survived by mother, wife Dr Manisha, son Dr Advait, daughter Ananya, and a large extended family. His last rites were performed on Wednesday evening at Mokshadham. Originally from Lakhani (Saloti) and currently residing at ‘Happy Heights’ in Ramdaspeth, Dr Pakhmode suffered a severe heart attack at his home around 5 am on Wednesday. He was immediately admitted to his ‘Neuron Hospital’ in Dhantoli. The team of doctors at the hospital made strenuous efforts to save him, but he breathed his last at 8 am during treatment. Dr Pakhmode completed his MBBS and MCh from Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur.
 
He then pursued higher education in Neurosurgery from the renowned KEM Hospital in Mumbai. After serving for five years at the Super Specialty Hospital affiliated with GMCH, he established Neuron Hospital in March 2014 along with the renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Pramod Giri. 
 
Condolences and tributes 
 
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed deep shock over the demise of Dr Chandrashekhar Pakhmode. Fadnavis said that the death of such a renowned brain and spinal cord surgeon (neurosurgeon) from Nagpur, is extremely shocking and saddening. “He had built a unique reputation in the medical field of Central India through his accurate diagnostic methods, surgical skills, and the sensitivity he showed towards his patients. He served the medical field in Nagpur for over 25 years, successfully performing thousands of extremely difficult surgeries and giving new life to patients.
 
He was like an angel for poor and common patients,” said Fadnavis. In his condolence message, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed that they have lost a skilled surgeon, a very kind-hearted and dedicated expert who connected with patients' pain with affection, and a family friend. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dr Pakhmode. He expressed his condolences, saying that we have lost a studious, expert, and sensitive doctor who had compassion for his patients. Many dignitaries from the medical and social fields have also paid tribute to him. Nagpur’s Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule also called it as personal loss. In his condolence message, Bawankule said that the death of Dr Pakhmode has created a vacuum and society would remember him forever. Former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, MLA Pravin Datke, Saoner MLA Dr Ashish Deshmukh visited Mokshdham and paid tributes.
