A sensational revelation has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the suicide of a 17-year-old girl in the Kolar area nearly two months ago. The DNA profiling report, received recently as part of the magisterial inquiry, has confirmed that the minor was subjected to sexual assault before she took the extreme step. According to the police, the teenager had died by hanging at her residence. While the preliminary post-mortem report confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation due to hanging, the police, following mandatory protocols for minor victims, had sent biological samples for DNA profiling.
The recently received report confirmed the presence of sperm, establishing that the victim was sexually assaulted.
The police are now focused on identifying the individual the victim was in contact with prior to her death. Investigators are scrutinising the Call Detail Records (CDR) of the deceased’s mobile phone to trace recent communications. Additionally, classmates from her school and local friends are being questioned. Authorities suspect that the perpetrator could be an acquaintance or a contemporary from her social circle.
Interestingly, at the time of the incident, the victim’s family had not expressed suspicion toward anyone.
They had even reportedly voiced their displeasure over the police’s decision to conduct detailed forensic and DNA testing. However, the police maintained that such procedures are a mandatory statutory requirement in cases involving the suspicious death of a minor.
Kolar Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Singh Soni said,
“Following the girl’s death, we
conducted a mandatory DNA
profiling. The report has now
come back positive, confirming
that sexual intercourse occurred
prior to the incident. In the next
phase of the investigation, we are
working to identify the individual responsible. We are analysing
call logs and gathering information from her school peers. Often,
such cases involve acquaintances or contemporaries; we
are examining all angles”.
