THE Bagsewaniya police have
dismantled a sophisticated interstate criminal syndicate that
utilised the guise of aluminium
fitting artisans to conduct daytime reconnaissance before striking locked houses at night. The
crackdown led to the arrest of five
active burglars and two prominent jewellers who served as
receivers of the stolen property.
Authorities have recovered gold
and silver jewellery valued at
approximately Rs 12 lakh.
During interrogation, the gang
leader, Rahul alias Satyam Kevat,
and his associates revealed a
chillingly methodical approach.
Clad as repairmen for aluminium windows and doors, the suspects would roam residential
colonies during the day.
Their
primary targets were houses with
visible padlocks or a build-up of
uncollected newspapers, telltale
signs of families being away from
the city. Once a target was identified, the gang would return
under the cover of darkness to
break in and siphon off valuables. The breakthrough followed
a series of daring thefts in Gulabi
Nagar and surrounding pockets
of Bagsewaniya. A dedicated
police task force initiated an
intensive investigation, analysing
footage from over 50 CCTV cameras. The technical surveillance
identified a group of youths carrying aluminium tools moving
suspiciously in the targeted
zones.
Following a strategic cordon-and-search operation, the
police apprehended Rahul Kevat,
Ayush, Ankush, and two individuals both named Vishal.
Narmadapuram connection
and lavish lifestyles: The investigation led the police to
Narmadapuram, where the
gang’s disposal network was
based. Raids were conducted on
‘Lalla Jewellers,’ resulting in the
arrest of its proprietor,
Krishnakant Soni, and a professional gold-smelter identified as
Anna Saheb. Both were complicit
in purchasing and melting the
stolen ornaments to evade d
etection.
Shockingly, the suspects confessed that the proceeds from
their crimes were used to fund a
life of luxury, including frequent
stays at high-end hotels and
expensive recreational habits.
