Bharatiya Janta Party and its allies made an astounding sweep by winning 25 out of 29 Municipal Corporations in Maharashtra, with BJP cornering as many as 1438 seats out of 2869 seats on Friday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emerged as the man of the moment, raising his reputation as political strategist to a phenomenal level. Shiv Sena headed by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emerged as the second largest party in the State with 405 seats, followed by 318 seats of Congress party.

Nationalist Congress Party headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar won 165 seats in different corporations. The much publicised combine of Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Shiv Sena (157 seats) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena headed by Raj Thackeray (14) seats failed to rise to the expectation it had built through media narrative. Nationalist Congress Party faction headed by Sharad Pawar ended up with mere 35 seats across the State. All other parties combined counted upto 337 seats.
