IN A major operation against
drug trafficking, a joint team of
the Anti Narcotics Task Force and
Komakhan Police arrested two
inter-State smugglers and seized
a massive consignment of illegal cannabis. A total of 950 kilogram of cannabis, estimated to
be worth Rs 4.75 crore, was recovered from the accused. The vehicle used for transportation, an
Eicher truck, was also seized, valued at approximately Rs 15 lakh.
According to police sources, the
Anti Narcotics Task Force has
been carrying out continuous
operations to curb the illegal trafficking of narcotic substances.
With the objective of dismantling the entire supply chain, the
agency is conducting ‘end-toend investigations’, focusing on
both the source and destination
points of drug movement.
Simultaneously, a systematic financial investigation is being
undertaken to trace the proceeds of crime.
As a part of this ongoing drive, action was taken in the
Komakhan police station area, where two accused were
apprehended. During the operation, police recovered 950
kilograms of cannabis, a golden-brown coloured Eicher truck
bearing registration number MH 20 EG 3969, Rs 4,050 in
cash and two mobile phones.
Following the seizure, a case
was registered against the accused under Section 20(b) of
the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and
they were formally arrested. Police officials stated that the
investigation is continuing and special teams have been
dispatched to identify and apprehend the forward and
backward links of the trafficking network as part of the endto-end investigation process. Efforts are underway to track
and arrest other individuals involved in the supply and distribution of the seized contraband.
It is noteworthy that
over the past 15 days alone, a total of 1,831.610 kilogram
of cannabis has been seized in similar operations, with an
estimated value of Rs 9 crore 15 lakh 83 thousand. These
actions are being described as among the most significant
steps taken so far against drug trafficking in the region.
The arrested accused have been identified as Akshay Bhorje
(26), resident of Akola Dev, under Temni police station, Jalna
district, Maharashtra, and Shubham Aute (24), resident of
Kuchcharvatta, Old Jalna, under Kadim police station, Jalna
district, Maharashtra.
