Staff Reporter:
POLICE have arrested a youth
in connection with a fake video
that went viral on social media,
showing an aircraft allegedly
landing at Jabalpur railway station. The video, created using
artificial intelligence (AI), triggered confusion among the
public after the youth claimed
it was an emergency landing.
Following a complaint by the
Dumna Airport Authority,
police traced the source of the
video and detained the accused
from Vikrampur in
Narsinghpur district.
The accused has been identified as Abhi Patel, a first year
BCom student of Mahakaushal
College.
According to police, the
video showed an aircraft standing next to a train engine on the
railway track at Jabalpur railway
station, followed by a collision
scene. The accused also added
his own commentary to make
the incident appear real.
Jabalpur Airport Authority
had denied the incident and
termed the video fake, after
which the matter was handed
over to the police. During investigation, police tracked the
social media account from
which the video was uploaded
and traced the accused to
Narsinghpur district.
He was
detained on Sunday.
During questioning, Abhi
Patel admitted that he had created the video using AI tools to
increase likes, views and followers on Instagram. He told
police that he did not intend to
cause panic but wanted his
social media content to go viral.
Police registered a case
against the accused under
Section 170 of the Bharatiya
Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After
recording his statement and
obtaining a written apology, he
was released. After being
detained, Abhi Patel apologised
to the police and assured that
he would not repeat such an
act in future.
He also appealed
to the public not to create or
share such misleading
videos, saying such content creates confusion and serious
problems.
Additional Superintendent of
Police Jitendra Singh appealed
to youths to use artificial
intelligence, internet and
mobile technology responsibly.
He said these technologies are
meant for constructive use, not
misuse. He warned that
creating and circulating fake
videos or reels for increasing
likes and views falls under the
category of offence and will
invite legal action.
The ASP added that in recent
days, fake videos showing a
plane landing at a railway station and the sale of police vehicles had gone viral on social
media. In both cases, Jabalpur
police identified the accused
and took action, he said.
