(BMC) has submitted a comprehensive report to the state government regarding the controversial modern slaughterhouse at Jinsi. In its detailed submission, the civic body has outlined the chronological developments of the past decade, asserting that every administrative step taken was in strict adherence to judicial mandates. To ensure impartiality, the BMC has now recommended a “third-party” investigation by an independent agency to address allegations of illegal activities and rule violations.

The report traces the roots of the current controversy back to 2014, when a petition was filed in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to shift the abattoir outside city limits. The BMC highlighted that while efforts were made to relocate the facility to Adampur Chhawani and Jhirniya, these plans were abandoned due to fierce local resistance and objections from the Airport Authority of India regarding flight safety.

Consequently, the decision was made to construct a modern, mechanized facility at the existing location to comply with environmental norms.Addressing questions regarding the facility’s operation, the BMC clarified that the contract was awarded to ‘Livestock Company,’ managed by Aslam Qureshi (alias Aslam Chamda), through a transparent bidding process initiated in December 2021.The report mentions that between 2022 and 2025, various Mayors-in-Council (MiC) meetings and successive Municipal Commissioners reviewed and approved the operational and construction phases. The civic body maintained that all necessary clearances were obtained from the Pollution Control Board before the facility became operational.

Call for Independent Scrutiny: Despite defending its paperwork and procedural conduct, the BMC acknowledged the gravity of the recent allegations involving the packaging of banned meat. Given the public’s mounting anger and the suspicion of a deeper criminal-administrative nexus, the Corporation has proactively requested the state government to initiate an external audit.
