Three including two kids were killed and two women were injured after being buried under a clay excavation site that caved-in in Parsohar village under the jurisdiction of Jiyawan police station in Singrauli district, on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Preeti Singh (10), daughter of Man Singh, a resident of Harhawa village; Basanti (16), daughter of Tilakdhari, a resident of Harhawa village and Phoolmati Yadav (50), daughter of Rammilan Yadav, a resident of Bandha village. The condition of injured identified as Kaushalya Singh (50), wife of Gyan Singh Gond, a resident of Parsohar village and Sakmuni Singh (45), daughter of Jagbhavan Singh, a resident of Chandreha is reported to be stable undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to Jiyawan police, at around 11.21 am, information was received at Kundwar Police Outpost under Jiyawan Police Station regarding an accident at a clay excavation site in Parsohar village. During the extraction of clay, a sudden soil collapse occurred.
According to villagers, five persons including women and minor girls were working at the site to dig clay using hand tools. Due to the sudden cave-in, all five were buried under the soil. Witnessing the incident, local villagers, Gram Sarpanch and police personnel jointly carried out rescue efforts. Two women were rescued in unconscious condition while two
minor girls and one woman were found dead at the spot.
Police from Kundwar Outpost and Jiyawan Police Station immediately reached the spot and monitored the situation.
Senior officers were informed and a JCB machine was called on the spot. A co-ordinated rescue operation was conducted with the assistance of police forces from Jiyawan Police Station, Bargawan Police Station and Kundwar Outpost. The injured were rescued and rushed to the hospital by ambulance.
The situation is currently under control. Legal formalities including inquest proceedings and post-mortem examinations of the deceased are being carried out.
