Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani paid a visit to the Patadi thermal power plant located on the Korba-Champa road. The visit is being seen as an important step towards accelerating expansion plans in the power sector in Korba. During his visit, Adani planted a sapling in the plant premises and inspected the control room and coal handling plant besides reviewing the progress of ongoing construction activities. Senior officials briefed him on operational and technical aspects of the project. Adani interacted with employees during the plant visit. He enquired about their work experience and work conditions and welfare. In a meeting with company officials, key decisions were taken regarding the third phase of expansion. Under the proposed plan, two new units of 800 MW capacity each, based on ultra-supercritical technology, are to be installed at the site. The estimated investment for the project is around Rs 15,000 crore. The environmental public hearing for the proposed expansion is scheduled to be held on February 27 at the playground of Saragbundiya Higher Secondary School. Meanwhile, preparations are underway to commission the 660 MW units under the second phase by April–May. Adani also directed officials to assess the feasibility of a fourth phase, which may include two additional units of 800 MW capacity, indicating long-term expansion prospects for the project. Senior officials of Adani Power Limited, including Vineet Jain, former IRS officer Aman Singh and Naresh Goyal, were present during the visit. Earlier in the day, Adani visited the Adani power plant at Raikheda in Raipur district and attended the Republic Day celebrations and later reached Patadi plant by helicopter, which landed at the helipad constructed near the coal handling plant. Adani’s recent visits to power plants in Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh), Anuppur (Madhya Pradesh) and various locations in Chhattisgarh over the past two days clearly reflect the group’s strong focus on expanding its power business.
