FOREST team successfully rescued a leopard trapped in a wire
trap in Sijhora Buffer Zone, Beat
Chatuakhar, Compartment No.
1438 of Kanha Tiger Reserve, on
Wednesday morning.
During routine patrolling
under Operation Wild Trap, a
forest patrol team in the Sijhora
Buffer Zone heard the distress
call of a wild animal near the
forest–revenue boundary. On
inspection, a leopard was found
trapped in a wire snare near an
agricultural field bund.
The incident was immediately reported to senior officials.
Following inspection at the
site, Assistant Director, Sijhora,
Wildlife Veterinary Officer Dr.
Sandeep Agrawal and the rescue team carried out the operation as per the directions of
the Field Director and Deputy
Director (Buffer). The leopard
was safely tranquilized, the wire
snare was cut using a cutter
and the animal was freed.
After health examination,
measurements and primary
treatment, no serious injuries
were found. Once fully fit, the
leopard was released back into
its natural habitat and safely
moved into the forest.
Forrest Department has registered a case while further
investigation is underway.
