FOREST team successfully rescued a leopard trapped in a wire trap in Sijhora Buffer Zone, Beat Chatuakhar, Compartment No. 1438 of Kanha Tiger Reserve, on Wednesday morning. During routine patrolling under Operation Wild Trap, a forest patrol team in the Sijhora Buffer Zone heard the distress call of a wild animal near the forest–revenue boundary. On inspection, a leopard was found trapped in a wire snare near an agricultural field bund. The incident was immediately reported to senior officials.

Following inspection at the site, Assistant Director, Sijhora, Wildlife Veterinary Officer Dr. Sandeep Agrawal and the rescue team carried out the operation as per the directions of the Field Director and Deputy Director (Buffer). The leopard was safely tranquilized, the wire snare was cut using a cutter and the animal was freed. After health examination, measurements and primary treatment, no serious injuries were found. Once fully fit, the leopard was released back into its natural habitat and safely moved into the forest. Forrest Department has registered a case while further investigation is underway.
