Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and State Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Arun Sao called on Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday. Deputy Chief Minister Sao requested Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Gadkari to approve various road projects proposed by the State Government.
Sao requested Gadkari for construction of bypass to reduce traffic pressure in Bilaspur town, to approve a 6-lane road from Raipur (Arang) to Bilaspur (Darri) under the Bharatmala project between Raipur and Bilaspur and to extend the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Marg to Raipur.
The Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh requested the Union Minister for upgradation of 13 National Highways in Chhattisgarh and
declaration of 8 roads as new National Highways.
During the meeting, Sao informed the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari that due to the ever-increasing population and vehicles in Bilaspur city, there is a lot of traffic pressure, due to which there is a constant traffic jam. To resolve this, he requested to approve a 32 km long four-lane bypass from High Court Bodri to Sendri outside the city through the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as per the proposal of the state government. This bypass will provide direct connectivity to the proposed Transport Nagar and Logistics Park of Bilaspur city from Raipur-Bilaspur National Highway.
Besides, it will effectively reduce traffic pressure within the city and promote industrial development communication system and planned urban expansion. Sao urged for extension of Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Marg to Raipur as a green field road for smooth traffic movement in the northern part of the state.
Keeping in view the presence of coal mines in the northern part of the state and iron mines in the southern part, he stressed on increasing industrial activities, transportation of coal and iron ore, export of steel and cement products. He said that the Raipur-Nagpur-Mumbai access controlled 8-lane connectivity will boost industrial activities in the state. Deputy Chief Minister Sao requested Gadkari to approve the construction of about 95 km 6-lane road from Arang in Raipur to Darri in Bilaspur under the Bharatmala project. He informed Gadkari that currently there is a National Highway connecting Raipur to Bilaspur, but due to lack of access control, there is no direct connectivity between the three Bharatmala projects of the state.
With the construction of Arang-Darri road, the distance from Raipur to Bilaspur will be covered in one hour and with the interconnection of the three Bharatmala roads, there will be direct connectivity, which will save time, money and energy in all types of transportation. Sao urged Union Minister Gadkari to sanction funds for the upgradation of 13 sections of National Highways in the state. He also urged for the declaration of eight roads as new national highways, while stressing on upgrading the existing roads for the social and economic development of the state.
