THE first two T-72 battle tanks
overhauled under a pilot project at Vehicle Factory Jabalpur
(VFJ), a unit of Armoured
Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL),
were flagged off on Wednesday
in a dignified ceremony by
Lieutenant General Amardeep
Singh Ojela, Master General
Sustenance (MGS). With this
achievement, VFJ is now set to
undertake large-scale overhauling of tanks.
The ceremony was attended
by Sanjay Dwivedi, CMD, AVNL,
Satyabrata Mukherjee, Director
(Operations & HR), Major
General Prabhjot Singh Bhati,
ADG, Major General RS
Sundaram, ADG, Praveen
Kumar, CGM, VFJ, SP Dekate,
Controller CQA (OFV), Rajeev
Gupta, CGM, GCF, along with a
large number of AVNL officers
and employees. To meet the
increasing requirement of battle tank overhauling for the
Indian Army, AVNL selected VFJ
to augment existing overhaul
facilities at its Heavy Vehicles
Factory (HVF).
As a part of this capacityenhancement initiative, VFJ was
approved in 2025 to undertake
pilot overhauling of tanks.
VFJ successfully completed
the overhaul strictly in accordance with the technical specifications and quality standards
prescribed by the Indian Army,
demonstrating its readiness to
meet operational requirements.
Addressing the gathering,
CMD Sanjay Dwivedi congratulated the VFJ team for completing the overhauling within
the stipulated timeframe and
reaffirmed AVNL’s commitment
to ensuring full-scale tank overhauling at VFJ.
Chief Guest Lt Gen Amardeep
Singh Ojela congratulated the
entire AVNL and VFJ team on
the successful completion of
the first two tanks, terming it a
challenging task executed efficiently and expressing confidence in VFJ’s capability to
handle larger overhauling
assignments in the future.
CGM Praveen Kumar
assured the guests that VFJ
would continue to deliver tank
overhauling with full capacity and efficiency.
