Nagpur has a proud moment as Nilambari Vijay Jagdale has been appointed as the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police. She took charge of her new post on the first day of the New Year, marking a major milestone in her distinguished police career. Punjab is a sensitive border state facing challenges such as terrorism, drug menace, gun culture and threats from neighbouring Pakistan.

In such a crucial situation, the appointment of Nilambari Jagdale as IG is seen as a strong and confident step by the Punjab Government. Nilambari Jagdale has a deep connection with Nagpur. She was born and raised in Giripeth and completed her entire education in the city. She studied at CP & Berar School, Ravi Nagar, completed her Class 12 from Shivaji College, and later earned an engineering degree in electronics from VNIT. After working briefly with a multinational company in Indore, she left her job to prepare for the UPSC examination. She joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 2008 and chose the Punjab cadre.

Starting her career as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Rupnagar, she went on to serve as SP in Ludhiana, Pathankot and Chandigarh. Known for her bold decisions and disciplined approach, she has held key positions, including DIG of Counter Intelligence, Cyber Cell and Intelligence Bureau. Her journey from Giripeth to the top ranks of Punjab Police is an inspiration, especially for young girls in Nagpur and across the country.
