PANIC gripped the busy TT Nagar
area on Tuesday afternoon when
a heavily inebriated car driver
went on a reckless rampage, ramming his vehicle into an e-rickshaw, three motorcycles, and two
cars. The 1.5-kilometre trail of
destruction ended only after the
speeding vehicle crashed into a
road divider ahead of the
Rangmahal Crossing.
According to eyewitnesses, the
incident occurred around 2:30
pm near the Nanke petrol pump.
The car, allegedly travelling at a
speed of 70-80 kmph, first struck
an e-rickshaw carrying passengers and then ploughed into
three bikes and two stationary
cars. I was standing near the TT
Nagar police station when I saw
the car speeding from the Apex
Crossing direction. It was hitting
everything in its path,” said
Harsh, a local resident. The vehicle finally came to a halt near
Shiva Chowk after colliding with
a divider.
Casualties averted, several
injured: While no fatalities were
reported, approximately six people, including two women and a
child, sustained injuries.
One biker, identified as
Satyam, suffered a serious leg
injury after the car’s tyre reportedly ran over him.
The occupants of the e-rickshaw and two young men on a
motorcycle were rushed to a
nearby hospital for treatment.
The owners of the two cars
involved in the collision escaped
unhurt, though their vehicles
sustained significant damage.
Immediately after the crash,
alert commuters chased the vehicle and nabbed the driver before
he could flee. The driver was
found to be so intoxicated that
he was unable to stand or
speak coherently. The angry mob
handed him over to the TT Nagar
police.
TT Nagar TI Gaurav Dohre
identified the driver as Harish
Malviya. “The accused was in a
highly intoxicated state and
could not even provide his personal details clearly at the time
of arrest. He has been taken into
custody, and a mandatory medical examination is being conducted,” TI Dohre stated.
