THE spewing of anti-India venom by some sections of students of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University of Delhi needs to be stopped immediately through strictest possible action by the Government. For, when some students shout slogans deprecating Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah, they not only spoil the atmosphere but also mock at the authority of the Government and the sovereignty of the nation. Such activities have been going on at the JNU for too long, and the Government has not been able to curb those tendencies. This, therefore, needs to be termed as the Government’s utter failure to curb the utter filth that the politically-driven sections of JNU students spread deliberately.
It is high time, therefore, that the Government acted the toughest in complete disregard to who has indulged in wrong, undesirable and unacceptable practices at the JNU.
It is obvious that the elements who indulge into such activities are acting as per an anti-India political agenda. The nature of slogans they raise is undoubtedly anti-India and the slogans are aimed at winning over gullible young crowd at the university. There is enough ground to believe that some anti-India elements are masterminding the activities of the students at the JNU. They talk of dismembering the country. They talk against the Government and its top functionaries.
They talk about the judiciary, the Armed Forces -- with a clear purpose of painting the country and its institutions in bad light.
Such elements cannot be allowed to persist with their filthy anti-India tirades. Hence the need of the Government to take the sternest possible measures to ensure that the atmosphere at the JNU becomes healthy once again. For, when an iconic institution allows anti-India activities on its campus, it only shows its weakness. When some students raised filthy slogans some time back, the JNU authorities complained to the Police and requested them to take every possible action and curb the nonsense immediately.
The latest slogans on the JNU campus came two days ago when a few students chose to lodge protest against the extended detention of outlaw Umar Khalid and his accomplice in the infamous communal riots in Delhi a few years ago.
The honourable Supreme Court has refused to grant bail to the two criminals -- for which even some American lawmakers raised their voice some time ago. Obviously, the slogans and the demand are part of an international conspiracy against India.
We are refraining from repeating the slogans simply because we do not wish to commit that sin. This is enough to show how filthy the slogans were. Despite this, the Government has not been able to take any strong action against the elements that indulge in such nonsense. The same elements were active when the terrorist who was the mastermind of the attack on Parliament was held guilty and was sentenced to death. These elements are not students at all -- though they have taken admissions to some courses only for records’ sake. The Government is fully aware of these details, and yet has failed to act tough so far.
This is very unfortunate. This also shows the incompetence of the system that cannot curb anti-India activities of some so-called students of the JNU. The university, no doubt, is prestigious claims having had students of the eminence of India’s Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar, for example, among many others. But because of the Government’s incompetence in this regard, the university has earned a bad name for itself. What needs to be done, therefore, is a concerted action to ensure that such elements are not allowed entry into the JNU. If at all they happen to sneak in, the authorities should be strong enough to throw them out, no matter the consequences. If this does not happen, then the Government will have to be blamed squarely for allowing an iconic institution to be abused by anti-India elements.
