The indefinite agitation for an increase in Madhya Pradesh teacher recruitment entered its 56th day on Thursday, turning volatile as aspirants attempted to gherao the Chief Minister’s House. The protest, which began on August 21 outside the Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI), saw march from DPI via Chetak Bridge and MP Nagar towards Roshanpura Square.
Police had barricaded Roshanpura and adjoining main roads, stopping the rally. Protesters then sat on the road itself, raising slogans and disrupting traffic.
Commuters reported slow movement and snarls around MP Nagar and Board Office areas, a pattern seen in earlier blockades. The demonstrators are demanding a specific post hike, 3,000 posts per subject in Class-2 and creation of 25,000 posts in Class-3 recruitment. The aspirants said that the stir will continue until a written Government order is issued. No official order has been released by the School Education Department so far. Traffic police said that barricading at Roshanpura will continue till the dharna is lifted. Protesters have announced to continue their
sit-in through the night.
