The Jabalpur Police, in a joint operation involving the Crime Branch and the Adhartal Police Station, have arrested a resident of Anand Nagar, identified as Mohammad Shameem Ahmad, for obtaining a fake passport using a fraudulent Aadhaar card. According to SI Adhartal, Vipin Tamrakar, initial investigations revealed that Mohammad Shameem Ahmad had previously created a fake Aadhaar card containing altered details, including changes to his date of birth and address. Using these falsified credentials, he secured a passport from Nagpur. Further background verification showed that he had changed his name, as well as the names of his wife and mother, in the familial records provided to Nagpur Passport Office. To support his application, he had also submitted a rental agreement registered in Nagpur.

Police officials noted that Ahmad managed to travel to Dubai on this fraudulent passport, where he reportedly stayed for several months. Following his arrest, a formal case was registered under relevant sections of the BNS and detailed interrogation is currently underway to ascertain the full extent of the forgery. It may be mentioned that in April 2024, an explosion occurred at a scrap yard located in Khajari Khirya Bypass, Jabalpur, which tragically claimed the lives of two workers. The blast was so intense that the human remained were scattered up to 25 metres away. Given the severity of the incident, multi-agency inspection teams including NDRF, SDRF, NSG and SPMG, were deployed to examine the site. While clearing the debris near the explosion site, municipal workers discovered human bones.

Following the blast, Mohammad Shameem Ahmad’s name surfaced in connection with the scrap yard owned by Raza Metal Scrap. However, police investigations later clarified that Ahmad had no link to the explosion incident. A scrutiny of Ahmad’s past criminal record indicated that he has ten prior cases registered against him across various police stations. These include charges under IPC Sections 413, 403, and 3/7 IPC at Gohalpur, Civil Lines, and Adhartal police stations in Jabalpur, as well as cases registered under the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act in Katni, Pali (Umaria district), Boheriband (Katni district), and Gotoriba (Sagar district). Probe into the fake passport case remains ongoing to track any additional networks or accomplices involved in the forgery.
