Family dispute reportedly caused distress; police register accidental death case

A 13-year-old Class VIII student died by suicide at his home under the jurisdiction of Sonegaon Police Station. The incident came to light around 7.30 pm on Monday. The deceased, Pulkit Devgade, was a volleyball player. His father works in the MIDC area, while his mother is employed at a showroom. According to police, Pulkit was alone at home when the incident occurred. When his mother returned from work in the evening, she found the door locked from inside. He did not respond to her calls. She sought help from neighbours, who broke open the door. Pulkit was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a piece of cotton cloth. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The exact circumstances leading to his death remain unclear. Sonegaon Police have registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation.

Police said Pulkit’s parents were involved in a family dispute. A divorce petition was also pending before the court. According to his mother’s statement to the police, his father had not been paying maintenance regularly despite court orders. She said this had made it difficult for her to manage household and educational expenses. Pulkit was reportedly upset because he could neither meet his father nor speak to him. He had also discussed the matter with his mother, according to the police. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
