IN A major move to address the issue of disposal of fly ash, Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MahaGenco) inked an agreement with Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to supply 6.17 crore metric tonnes for construction of ambitious Samruddhi extension corridors.
Three new corridors are planned for Chandrapur (2.79 cr MT), Bhandara-Gadchiroli (1.14 cr MT), and Gondia (2.09 cr MT) all ex-Nagpur to which the waste generated from thermal plants are going to be supplied. For the projects near Nagpur end, the fly ash is going to be supplied from Koradi or Khaparkheda Thermal Power Plants and for later ends the raw material is going to be supplied from Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station.
The individual contractors who bags the road construction project would further sign an agreement with respective thermal power plants together with MSRDC.
The usage of so much fly ash would ease the disposal burden at these plants. The terms of the agreement are valid till March 31, 2032, or till completion of project, whichever is earlier, said a release issued by MahaGenco.
The usage of fly ash in road projects is as per the policy of Central and Maharashtra Government for ensuring full usage of the waste.
