REPRESENTING Maharashtra , Nagpur and Khel F o u n d a t i o n ’s Kashish Bhagat and Abhimanyu Kushwaha won a medal each in the 41st National Junior Athletics Championships that was organised by the Athletics Federation of India in association with the Tamil Nadu Athletics Association at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. In the Under-20 girls category, Kashish won a silver in the 4x400m relay.

 

Mansi Bharekar, Janhvi Chorghe and Sukanya Shivane were the other runners. In the Under-20 boys shot put, A b h i m a n y u bagged a bronze medal with a throw of 17.83 metres, the gold medal went to Uttar P r a d e s h ’ s Akhand Singh ( 1 8 . 1 2 m ) . Kashish and A b h i m a n y u practice under the guidance of NIS coach Gajanan Thakre. Eight athletes from Nagpur district were selected in Maharashtra team. Other players failed to make it to the podium. Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Secretary of the District Athletics Association expressed satisfaction over performance of the athletes in the national competition.
