Two poachers nabbed for hunting sambar in Kanha

FOREST team arrested two persons in connection with the illegal hunting of a female sambar in Bhaisan Ghat forest range of Kanha Tiger Reserve, on Monday. The action was taken when a Forest Department patrol team, during routine patrolling, spotted two suspicious persons and detained them. A sharp-edged axe was recovered from their possession and seized. During questioning, the accused provided information based on which the carcass of a female sambar hunted in the forest area which was recovered and seized.
 
The patrol team prepared the seizure memo and other required documents as per procedure and registered a preliminary forest offence case. The carcass was examined by the wildlife veterinary officer of Kanha Tiger Reserve. Samples of various organs and skin were collected and preserved for necessary forensic examination. Assistant Director Halon, Bhaisan Ghat Range Officer and other Forest Department personnel were present during the proceedings. The two accused were produced before the court in Baihar which remanded them to judicial custody and further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
