A Volkswagen showroom salesman allegedly stole a Rs 23 lakh Virtus GT from his workplace to fulfil his wife’s fondness for luxury cars. The vehicle, booked in a customer’s name, was taken from the showroom on September 28. The theft came to light during a stock check. Although CCTV footage did not clearly capture the suspect’s face, GPS tracking helped police locate the car. Ashoka Garden police arrested the accused, Gajendra alias Rishi Anand, who was sent to jail after being produced in court on Sunday. Employee Exploited Showroom Access: Police said the accused, a native of Hoshangabad, had moved to Bhopal about a year ago and worked at a Volkswagen showroom on JK Road

He lived with his wife in a rented house in Ashoka Garden and was familiar with the showroom’s operations. GPS Leads Police To Vehicle: After the company reported the theft, police traced the car on Friday night to near Ashima Mall on Narmadapuram Road. The accused’s wife was driving it when police reached the spot. Further investigation pointed to Gajendra’s alleged involvement, and the vehicle was recovered. Police Probe Other Theft Cases: Police station in-charge Anurag Lal said the accused told investigators he had stolen the car because his wife liked travelling in expensive vehicles. Police are checking his previous records and probing a possible link with a car theft in Ayodhya Nagar five months ago, in which the vehicle was later recovered from Raisen. Investigators are also examining whether his wife knew the car was stolen.
