A four-term senior corporator of Bharatiya Janata Party, Narendra alias Balya Borkar has been named as Ruling Party Leader in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). His name was announced by BJP City President Dayashankar Tiwari in a meeting of the corporators held at Rajwada Palace on Saturday. The party has entrusted this significant responsibility to Borkar, who has extensive experience in the working of the municipal corporation. Balya Borkar has been active in Nagpur politics for more than two decades. With his selection, the party has placed the responsibility of leading the House on the shoulders of a loyal and experienced leader. His strong grasp in administrative work and excellent rapport with the common people are his key strengths. Borkar first came into limelight in 2007 when he earned his name as giant killer. He defeated the then Mayor of Nagpur Naresh Gawande of Congress. Nobody had a clue of Borkar’s victory. Borkar subsequently kept winning corporation elections in 2012, 2017 and now, in 2026. This year, he registered victory from Prabhag 23 by defeating the stalwart leader Duneshwar Pethe of Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar). Pethe is party’s City President too and remained a lone corporator of NCP.
