Mayor, Deputy Mayor and leader of the ruling party take charge 
 
EXPRESSING full faith in new office-bearers of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, on Monday, urged all the new corporators to take a pledge to make Nagpur a developed city by year 2047. He was addressing the ceremony held at NMC campus to felicitate Mayor, Deputy Mayor who assumed their respective charges and also the Ruling Party Leader. He stated, “Devendra Fadnavis and Nitin Gadkari hold a vision to facilitate the citizens with the most advanced technology and infrastructure till 2047. And if we all come together and work, we will succeed in accomplishing it sooner.” Adding to his speech, he further said, “I understand that women have mastered the skill to smoothly operate the House with limited budget but budget is not going to be a hurdle at NMC and I request Mayor Neeta Thakre not to harbour any worries about the budget and lead the development initiatives while working in the administration.”
 
Marking a historic end to a four-year administrative vacuum, the newly elected leadership of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officially assumed charge at NMC Headquarters in Civil Lines on Monday. Mayor Neeta Thakre, elected on February 6 with a commanding 104 votes, took her designated seat alongside Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed and Leader of the Ruling Party Narendra (Balya) Borkar. The ceremony was was attended by Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Krishna Khopde, MLA; Mohan Mate, MLA; Dayashankar Tiwari, former Mayor and BJP City President; Ajay Sancheti, former MP; Satish Dagor, Chairman of the State Sanitation Workers Welfare Board; former legislators Anil Sole, Vikas Kumbhare and Dr Milind Mane; Additional Municipal Commissioners Vasumana Pant and Vaishnavi B, BJP leaders Sanjay Bhende, Bunty Kukde, Jayprakash Gupta, Rajesh Bagdi, and Virendra Kukreja. Former Mayors Archana Dehankar, Maya Ivnate, Vijay alias Pintu Zalke, former Standing Committee Chairman; surrounded by various newly elected Corporators, the leaders pledged to prioritise city development, signalling a new era of democratic governance for Nagpur after years of administrator-led rule. Speaking on the occasion, Dayashankar Tiwari, ex-Mayor, congratulated the newly elected officials during his speech.
 
“When it comes to solve tiny problems, a man can never defeat women. As women smoothly operate their entire family, no matter if they have the budget of Rs 10,000 a month or Rs 50,000 a month, no other person can ever compete with them in this task. They have been privileged with this skill and I believe newly-elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor will utilise their skills and try to solve every micro to macro grievances of the citizens.” Further, Ajay Sancheti, Former Member of Rajya Sabha, said, “I urge the newly elected faces to sit with the seniors and grasp the knowledge as much as you can because there are some examples present here who worked hard while working in administration.
 
This is a component which we all should consider and incorporate in our life which will eventually help the masses.” Concluding the event, Neeta Thakre expressed her heartfelt gratitude saying, “Being elected as Mayor is full of responsibility and during my tenure of service, I will try to resolve problems from every sectors. I will not break the trust people have shown through the elections.” The programme was conducted by Manish Soni, Public Relations Officer, and a vote of thanks was proposed by corporator Shrikant Aglawe. The workers expressed their joy by bursting firecrackers and playing drums.
 
Mahakalkar assumes charge as Leader of Opposition in NMC 
 
Sanjay Mahakalkar officially took charge as the Leader of Opposition in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Monday. Following his appointment as the Congress group leader, the formal takeover took place at NMC headquarters in the presence of senior party leadership. He was welcomed with bouquets by Nagpur City Congress President and MLA Vikas Thakre, alongside Shiv Sena (UBT) group leader Kishore Kumeria. Other prominent attendees included MLA Abhijit Wanjari, Congress leaders Umakant Agnihotri, Girish Pandav, Vishal Muttemwar, Akash Taywade and Atul Kotecha, as well as corporators Sujata Kombade, Pramod Thakur and Abhijit Jha. A large number of office bearers and party workers gathered to support the new leadership as the elected body begins its fresh term.
