INDORA-DIGHORI FLYOVER: Bhande Plot to DighoriSq stretch to open in April; Pachpaoli arm by June
Staff Reporter :
THE flyover from Bhande Plot
Square to Telephone Nagar
Square, one of two flyovers being
built as part of the ambitious
Indora - Dighori flyover, will be
opened in April, while the longer
flyover from Pachpaoli to
Reshimbagh Square will be
opened in June, informed
Chandrakant Sinha, Project
Director (T echnical), National
Highway Authority of India
(NHAI), Nagpur Region, while
interacting with reporters dur
ing a media tour on Tuesday.
The project aims to reduce
traffic congestion from one of
the most crowded parts of the
city, like Mahal and Gandhibag,
by diverting vehicles moving
from North Nagpur to East
Nagpur via flyovers.
The con
struction of the flyovers began
in 2023 and was mostly execut
ed on schedule. Sinha attributed
the delay in opening of the longer
flyover to delay by Indian
Railways in granting permission
and block required to launch
girder over the two railway cross
ings in Pachpaoli. However, he
assured that the issue is nearly resolved and the longer flyover will be opened by June.
The 8.9 km long project, being constructed at the cost of Rs 998.27 cr, is 73 per cent complete, stated Sinha. The project has also made 69 per cent financial progress.
The road surfacing on the elevated rotary at Ashok Square is progressing as per schedule, with further beautification of the rotary with lights and murals scheduled ahead.
The remaining construction work mostly consist of launching of girders over railway crossings, construction of ramps near Daga hospital, construction of Railway under Bridges (RuB) at railway crossings in Pachpaoli, construction of service roads, among others. The project, once completed, is expected to reduce travel time from Kamal Square to Dighori Square to around 15 mins instead of nearly 45 minutes currently.
