PRIME Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Bastar Pandum, held in Chhattisgarh from February 7 to 9, describing it as a powerful celebration of Bastar’s rich cultural legacy, tribal traditions and collective spirit.
Congratulating all participants and organisers in an official statement, the Prime Minister said such initiatives play a crucial role in preserving India’s cultural heritage while strengthening local communities.
Reflecting on Bastar’s journey, the Prime Minister noted that there was a time when the region was largely associated with Maoism, violence, and developmental challenges.
“Today, Bastar is carving out a new identity—one rooted in peace, development, and the growing self-confidence of its people,” he said, expressing confidence that the region’s future would be defined by harmony, progress, and cultural pride.
Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister, Chief Minister
Vishnu Deo Sai said that under his visionary leadership and sustained guidance, Bastar has emerged as a strong symbol of inclusive development and cultural resurgence. He stated that Bastar Pandum not only helps preserve tribal customs, folk traditions, and heritage, but also sends a powerful message of peace, trust, and unity.
The Chief Minister further highlighted that the positive transformation witnessed in Bastar is the result of coordinated efforts by the Central and State governments. Expansion of road networks, improved access to education and healthcare, enhanced communication facilities, and growing livelihood opportunities have fostered a new environment of trust and public participation. Reaffirming the State government’s commitment, Sai said that, under the Prime Minister’s guidance, Chhattisgarh will continue to safeguard the traditions and cultural heritage of its tribal communities while steadily taking Bastar to new heights of peace, prosperity, and development.
