Vidarbha lost a hard-fought, low-scoring Elite Group B match against Rajasthan by three wickets in the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy in Vadodara on Tuesday.
Asked to bat first, Vidarbha lost half their side with only 80 runs on the board in the 29th over. Barring Shivani Dharne (40) and Gangi Wankar (33) there was no other notable contribution from the batters.
Five run outs hurt Vidarbha’s cause more than Rajasthan’s bowling and they were bowled out for 173.
Rajasthan started well in their chase and looked like coasting with 93-2 but Vidarbha’s experienced bowling attack and sharp fielding reduced them to 146-6 in 45.3 overs. A 19-run partnership between Jyoti Choudhary and Siddhi Sharma (5) took the score to 165 before the latter was run out. Rajasthan needed nine runs off the last seven deliveries, but Jyoti (37 not out) held her nerve to see her team home on last ball of the match.
Brief scores: Vidarbha 173 all out in 49.2 overs (Shivani Dharne 40, Gargi Wankar 33). Rajasthan 176-7 in 50 overs (Sumitra Jat 37, Jyoti Choudhary 37 no, Dimple Kanwar 36; Mona Meshram 2-32).
