IN A heartbreaking incident, a 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide just hours after performing the last rites of his mother.The incident took place in Raibasa village under the jurisdiction of Kelwad Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Ramu Dayaram Masram (50), a resident of Raibasa village in Saoner tehsil. According to police, Ramu’s mother, Mannabai Dayaram Masram (75), died of old age on Wednesday. Her last rites were performed on Thursday evening at around 5 pm. Police said that after returning home from the funeral, Ramu appeared quiet and withdrawn. Later in the night, he allegedly took his own life by hanging himself inside his house. Before doing so, he reportedly asked other family members to step out of the house and locked the door from inside. The family assumed that Ramu was resting due to exhaustion and grief. However, on Friday morning, when Ramu did not open the door despite repeated calls, family members became suspicious.

 

They broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling fan with a saree tied around his neck. The family immediately informed the police. Officials of Kelwad Police Station said, “After receiving information, we rushed to the spot along with our staff. The body was brought down in the presence of pancha witnesses, and he was found dead on the spot.” A spot panchnama was carried out, and the body was sent to Saoner Government Hospital for postmortem. Police officials said that no suicide note was found at the scene. Preliminary investigation suggests that Ramu was under severe mental stress following the sudden death of his mother. “At present, it appears to be a case of suicide due to emotional distress. Further investigation is underway to verify all aspects,” said the official.
