With this recognition, AIIMS Nagpur becomes the first public hospital in Maharashtra to receive full NABH accreditation with one of the widest scopes of clinical services
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur has achieved a landmark milestone in institutional quality assurance by being awarded full accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), Quality Council of India.
With this recognition, AIIMS Nagpur becomes the first public hospital in Maharashtra to receive full NABH accreditation with one of the widest scopes of clinical services among public hospitals in India, covering major specialties, super-specialties, transplant services, and critical care. AIIMS Nagpur is first to have been accredited with entry-level NABH, which has now achieved a full NABH accreditation for next 5 years till 2030.
AIIMS is already having NABH-accredited Institutional Ethics Committee and NABL accreditation for clinical labs too.
The NABH full accreditation process is comprehensive and rigorous, involving detailed assessment of patient safety systems, clinical governance, infrastructure, documentation standards, infection control practices, medication safety, risk management, and continuous quality improvement mechanisms across the hospital. Successfully meeting these standards across a wide spectrum of services represents a significant institutional achievement.
Since inception (2019) of clinical services, within a short span, AIIMS Nagpur has provided care to more than 25 lakh outpatients and over 1 lakh inpatients, and has conducted more than 42,000 surgeries, including major and super-major procedures. These achievements reflect the institute’s growing role as a major tertiary-care public healthcare institution in Central India and
stands as a testament to its
commitment to quality patient care, patient safety, and clinical excellence.
This milestone marks a significant step in AIIMS Nagpur’s quality journey,
positioning the institute at the forefront of quality accreditation and patient safety in public healthcare.
AIIMS Nagpur has been consistently striving towards institutional quality accreditation by strengthening standard operating procedures, documentation systems, patient safety practices, and clinical governance mechanisms aligned with national quality standards.
Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Nagpur, Dr Prashant P Joshi, congratulated the faculty and staff of the institute. Dr Nilesh Nadgeve, Medical Superintendent, stated, “This achievement strengthens AIIMS Nagpur’s commitment to quality patient care, patient safety, and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.” The accreditation process was co-ordinated by Dr Nitin Marathe, Joint Medical Superintendent, with active participation and support from all departments, hospital committees, faculty members, and staff of the institute.
