A 30-year-old man died during treatment after he allegedly set himself on fire in the Bhandewadi area under the jurisdiction of Pardi Police Station. The incident took place on February 11 at around 8 pm near Panchsheel Buddha Vihara.
The deceased has been identified as Harendra Shivshankar Thakur. He is survived by wife and two children.
According to police, Harendra was addicted to alcohol and often argued with his wife after drinking. Fed up with the constant quarrels, his wife along with their children left him and went to her mother’s house.
Police said, Harendra was under mental stress as he wanted his wife and children to return.
Frequent disputes also took place between him and his mother-in-law. His wife had recently sent him a divorce notice, which added to his stress.
On the night of the incident, Harendra allegedly poured petrol on himself in a rented room and set himself on fire. He suffered severe burn injuries and was rushed to a medical centre by his wife. He died during treatment on February 14 at around 3 pm.
Pardi Police have registered a case of accidental death. Further investigation is on.
