City lawyers boycott judicial work to protest against Adv Saxena’s murder, submit memo

Jabalpur lawyers on Monday, registered their strong protest by abstaining from judicial work in protest of the brutal murder of lawyer Sanjay Saxena in Shivpuri. Organised under the joint aegis of the District Bar Association, the Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association, and the High Court Advocates’ Bar Association, lawyers raised their voices demanding security and justice during this protest. District Bar Association Jabalpur Secretary Gyan Prakash Tripathi stated that on February 14, Adv Sanjay Saxena was shot dead in Shivpuri while he was entering court in his uniform. This incident has caused widespread outrage among lawyers across the State.
 
As a mark of protest, all lawyers in Jabalpur abstained from judicial work on February 16. Hundreds of lawyers, led by Association President Manish Mishra, gathered at Gate No. 4 of the court and staged demonstrations to express their demands. During the protest, the advocates submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate in the name of the Chief Minister. The memorandum demanded financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of the deceased advocate, a Government job to his dependent, and immediate implementation of the Advocate Protection Act in the State. At the end of the protest, tributes were paid by observing two minutes of silence for the peace of the departed soul. Hundreds of advocates including President Manish Mishra, Secretary Gyan Prakash Tripathi, Vice President Manoj Tiwari, Joint Secretary Manoj Shivhare, Shailendra Yadav, Ravindra Dutt, Prashant Nayak, Arjun Sahu and former President Umesh Pandey were present.
