AARIT Thakur in Open Group and Vritika Game in Women’s Group annexed the titles of the Nagpur District Open and Women’s Chess Championship organised by Chess Association Nagpur in association with GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation and Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation at GH Raisoni College, Rian Tower on Sunday.
Aarit scored 7½ points in 8 rounds to remain unbeaten and a clear winner. Mayur Gupta scored 6½ points finish second. Kushagra Paliwal, Mohak Bhagchandani, Swaraj Mishra and Shreyas Bahadure also scored 6½ points each but were placed from third to sixth in the final list based on their tie-break scores.
Vritika with 7 points out of 8 was also a clear winner. Vidhi Mishrikotkar and Avanti Junghare scored 6 points and were placed 2nd and 3rd based respectively. Shambhavi Khedkar, Swara Gandhi, Ayanshi Bhengade and Simran Tijare scored 5½ points each and were placed from 4th to 7th based on tie break scores.
Winners of both groups got richer by Rs 1500 and trophy each. Prizes worth Rs 10000 for each group were at stake.
Medals were given to top two finishers in Under-19, 15, 13, 11, 9 and 7 age categories as well as veterans. Top four finishers in both open groups will represent Nagpur district in Maharashtra State Open and Women’s chess Championship to be held later this year.
Prizes were distributed at the hands of CA Satish Sarda and Mamta Sarda. Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, Chess Association Nagpur and SS Soman, Member, MCA Observer Committee and Chief Arbiter IA Shiva Iyer were present on the on Sports Reporter
