Prasenjit Yadav, a young wildlife photographer and National Geographic researcher from Nagpur, has made his mark on the world stage by receiving the most prestigious wildlife photography award ‘Photographer’s Photographer Award’ by National Geographic.
Prasenjit bagged the award for his rare black tiger photograph, which was published on the cover of the October 2025 issue of National Geographic. The published photograph of black tiger attracted attention of many across the world even as it went viral on the internet.
Prasenjit’s photograph introduced the world to a rarely found black tiger, which was photographed in Simlipal National Park of Odisha.
The world has been introduced to the black tiger first time due to that photograph.
Every year, National Geographic photographers vote for one photographer from around the world to be the Photographer of the Year. This year, the prestigious award went to wildlife photographer and National Geographic researcher Prasenjit Yadav.
Prasenjit studied biotechnology at Hislop College in Nagpur. He moved to Bengaluru at the age of 20 and started his journey as a researcher for National Geographic.
While studying tigers in Simlipal National Park in Odisha during 2018-19, he saw a tiger with black stripes instead of yellow, which he captured in his camera.
