Massive protests erupted in the city on Saturday over shirtless demonstration staged by Youth Congress during the ‘India AI Impact Summit-2026’ in New Delhi. Hundreds of leaders and members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) gathered at Baldevbagh Chowk and raised slogans against the Congress. During the protest, BJYM workers broke through police barricades and moved towards the Congress office area, where a large number of Youth Congress workers were already present.

As activists from both sides came face to face, the situation turned tense, forcing police to intervene and separate the groups. Both organisations shouted slogans against each other as heavy police deployment was made to prevent any escalation. Police personnel from nearly 10 police stations, along with the SDM, two Additional Superintendents of Police, five CSPs and several Station House Officers remained on the spot to control the situation. The protest continued for nearly half an hour, during which both sides remained in close confrontation.

Congress leaders Amrish Mishra and others alleged that BJYM workers were attempting to reach the Congress office and, when stopped by the police, tried to attack Congress workers. He claimed that Congress workers stood their ground and resisted. Mishra further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of harassing the public, stating that the Congress has been consistently raising public issues, which has unsettled the BJP. Meanwhile, senior police officials said adequate police force had been deployed in advance in view of the protest. They said BJYM workers assembled near Baldevbagh and ran forward after breaking barricades, but were stopped forcibly when they attempted to move towards the old Congress office. Timely police action helped bring the situation under control.
