Jabalpur police have intensified their search for the dentist couple, Dr Sumit Jain and Dr Prachi Jain, following the registration of an FIR concerning the alleged fraudulent acquisition of property valued at over Rs 50 crore. The case centers on approximately 25,000 square feet of prime land belonging to the late Dr. Hemlata Srivastava. Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly orchestrated a conspiracy to seize the land after the passing of Dr Srivastava’s husband and her only son.
Few weeks earlier, two separate gift deeds were reportedly executed, transferring roughly 11,000 square feet of the land into the names of
Dr Sumit Jain and his wife, Dr Prachi.
Prior to her death, Dr Hemlata Srivastava released a video from the hospital alleging that the couple had coerced her into signing property documents through threats and deception. She explicitly stated she had never voluntarily donated the land.
The investigation has also highlighted significant lapses within the e-Registration office as despite a certificate declaring Dr Srivastava medically "unfit" was reportedly available, the registration of gift-deed was done.
Then, reports indicated that Dr Srivastava was brought to the registry office in an ambulance and carried up the stairs on a stretcher in a critical condition. The Registrar allegedly ignored these physical signs of distress and failed to conduct the mandatory background checks required for high-value gift deeds involving non-blood relatives.
Based on an inquiry report by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate
(SDM), Madan Mahal Police have registered a case under Sections 316(4) (Criminal breach of trust) and 3(5) (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused couple remains at large and they are currently conducting raids at various suspected locations. Authorities have indicated that the Registrar or Sub-Registrar involved in the registration may also face departmental or legal action for gross negligence.
