Pachpaoli police have arrested a 23-year-old youth who allegedly procured a pistol to end his life and later posted its photo on Instagram. The friend who supplied the weapon has also been taken into custody. The accused have been identified as Syed Mazahir Ali Jafri (23), a resident of Shanti Nagar and Shahrukh Khan (30) of Taj Nagar, Teka. Police said Mazahir is unemployed, while Shahrukh has a previous case registered against him for illegal possession of a weapon. According to police, Mazahir had been under severe stress following the recent death of his father. Investigators said he contacted Shahrukh and asked him to arrange a pistol, claiming he had some urgent work. Shahrukh allegedly handed over the firearm but told him that cartridges would be provided after two to three days. While waiting for the ammunition, Mazahir clicked a photo posing with the pistol and uploaded it on Instagram. The post quickly came to the notice of Pachpaoli police, who launched a search operation.

The police traced Mazahir and arrested him near Diwate Desi Bhatti, close to the first railway gate in Pachpaoli, on Saturday. Police seized valuables worth about Rs 35,000, including the pistol and a mobile phone. During questioning, Mazahir reportedly told police that he had obtained the weapon from Shahrukh with the intention of committing suicide. Based on his statement, police registered a case and arrested Shahrukh as well. Both accused are in police custody and further investigation is underway to verify the source of the weapon and examine any additional angles in the case.
