Staff Reporter :
Temperature across the State currently hovering above the seasonal normal as the State begins to feel the early signs of a warming trend. While conditions have remained dry over the last two days, meteorologists are tracking specific pockets where light rainfall may occur, alongside a projected rise in mercury levels in the coming days.
Isolated rainfall to occur in southern pockets: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain or drizzle at isolated places in the districts of Betul, Chhindwara, Seoni, and Pandhurna. This moisture is largely attributed to a Trough running from north Tamil Nadu to south-west Madhya Pradesh, crossing Marathwada and Vidarbha. Additionally, two upper air cyclonic circulations, one over Kutch and another over West Rajasthan, are influencing the regional climate. While a western disturbance is currently passing through northern latitudes, a fresh system is expected to affect the
Western Himalayan region from the night of March 2, which could further alter local conditions.
Khargone recorded the highest maximum at 35.2°C, Pachmarhi remains the coolest with 9.6°C: Maximum temperatures in Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa, and Sagar divisions are currently 1.8°C to 2.7°C above the seasonal average. Khargone recorded the state’s highest maximum at 35.2°C, while Pachmarhi remains the coolest spot with a minimum of 9.6°C. Minimum temperatures also show a significant upward trend, particularly in the Chambal division, where they are appreciably above normal by 3.5°C.
Residents should prepare for an intensifying warming trend.
While no large change is expected for the next 48 hours, maximum temperatures are projected to climb by an additional 2°C to 3°C thereafter. Average wind speeds are currently clocked between 08 to 10 kmph, providing a light breeze that may mitigate some of the daytime heat.
For the capital city and its neighbourhood, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy through the morning of February 28. The maximum temperature in Bhopal is likely to settle around 31°C, with the minimum touching 15°C.
Observations from the previous day show that Bhopal’s maximum reached 32.0°C, slightly higher than the usual for this time of year.
Health Advisory: Stay hydrated: With dry weather and rising temperatures, health officials suggest staying hydrated to combat skin dryness and potential dehydration. The variation between warm days and cool nights can be taxing on the body; layered clothing is recommended for those commuting during early mornings or late nights, especially for children and the elderly. Farmers are advised to monitor crops closely. The recent cloudy patches may lead to an increase in aphids in crops like mustard, radish, and beans. If infestations cross economic thresholds, a spray of Imidacloprid (0.5 ml/litre) is recommended. Additionally, this is an ideal window to start preparations for summer crops, including spring sugarcane, groundnut, and maize.
