“Railways has again extended the deadline for completion of ongoing redevelopment work at Nagpur Railway Station. Now, the deadline has been extended to March 2027. Earlier, the work completion was targeted by December 2026, but given the challenges of carrying out construction works at a ‘live’ station, the authorities are treading cautiously and hence, the extension,” stated Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Central Railway, Nagpur Division, Vinayak Garg, on Monday. He was interacting with newspersons on the sidelines of briefing of Railway Minister about the budgetary allocation to Central India, and Maharashtra in general. The interaction was held at DRM office in the city. Post completion of briefing by the Railway Minister, the DRM fielded queries about the redevelopment schedule of Nagpur and Ajni stations respectively. As to Ajni, the new deadline, now, is October 2026. Earlier, it was expected to be ready by this summer. “Ajni is being developed as a satellite railway station and four new platforms are coming up on the Eastern side.

Once Ajni comes on-line, then a significant number of trains can be shifted from Nagpur station, thus easing the congestion at main station,” the DRM said. As per the plan, trains moving towards Ballarshah and Badnera might be operated from Ajni. That would also prove quite convenient for the travellers. Asked about the rescheduling of deadline at Nagpur, DRM stated that, since the work is to be carried out without damaging the heritage structure of station building, the work is proceeding slowly. The Railways is also taking up yard remodelling so that safety can be enhanced in future plus more facilities can be rolled out for the travellers. About Godhni, the station development is also on track and in total, four platforms are being envisioned here. It would also include a home platform, similar to one at Nagpur Railway Station. The DRM also said, “Capacity expansion work of tracks in division has been completed to a large extent.

The tunnelling work at Darakho for 3rd and 4th line of Nagpur-Itarsi route has slowed down, he admitted and blamed the contractor for falling behind the schedule. The Nagpur-Sewagram 3rd and 4th line work are nearing completion and at many places, it has provided operational flexibility to the division. Earlier, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed confidence that Nagpur-Nagbhid gauge conversion work will be completed by end of year 2026. The work in forest section in Warora has gathered pace and Railways is keen to wrap it up so that travellers in interior Vidarbha can benefit.
