Lakadganj Police have registered a case of cheating and financial fraud against six accused who allegedly cheated a civil engineer and contractor of more than Rs 1.53 crore by promising him government construction work in Assam.
The accused are identified as Nila Navin Jaiswal (52), resident of Plot No. 13, Jai Badrinath Society, Khamla, Nagpur; Nilima Atul Desai (62), resident of C-8, Charkop, Kandivali, Mumbai; Dipsar (45), resident of Diphu, Karbi Anglong, Assam; Tapanshil (35), resident of Satgaon Road, Navapara, Guwahati, Assam; the proprietor of Easy Print, resident of Satgaon Road, Navapara, Guwahati, Assam; and Pankaj (35), resident of Guwahati, Assam.
According to police, the complainant, Uttam Nivrutti Narkhede (59), a resident of Urja Nagar, Chandrapur, works as a civil engineer and contractor. Between November 28, 2024, and January 8, 2025, he met the accused at a Domino’s Pizza restaurant at Chapru Nagar square, which falls under Lakadganj Police Station limits.
The accused are known to the complainant and allegedly conspired together to cheat him. Police said the accused claimed they had strong connections with senior officials in the Assam government and assured the complainant that they would help him secure lucrative government construction tenders in Assam. Believing their claims, the complainant agreed to their proposal. “The accused convinced the complainant that various permissions, licenses, and official documents were required to obtain government tenders. On this pretext, they asked him to transfer money into different bank accounts from time to time,” said an official of Lakadganj police station.
Police stated that the complainant transferred a total amount of Rs 1,53,04,912 to the accused as commission and for processing official work. However, no government contract or tender was ever secured for him. When the complainant realized that he had been cheated and demanded his money back, the accused avoided him and gave misleading answers. Lakadganj Police registered a case against all six accused under relevant sections of the IPC.
