In a tragic incident, a Swamp Deer (Barasingha) died after being hit by a two-wheeler and a couple was injured near the post office in the GCF factory area, on Wednesday. The incident took place when a Barasingha suddenly ran across the road and collided with a couple riding an Activa scooter. The impact was so severe that the couple was thrown onto the road while the barasingha died on the spot. The husband and wife sustained serious injuries in the incident. Following the accident, local residents immediately informed the GCF security department and the forest department. According to information, the couple was travelling from Ranjhi towards Civil Lines when the barasingha, being chased by stray dogs, panicked and ran onto the road and was rammed into the two-wheeler.

 

On receiving the information, teams from GCF Estate security and forest department reached the spot. The injured couple has been identified as residents of the Katangi area. The elderly man, Harishankar Chamoli was returning home with his wife Lokesh Dhyani at the time of the incident. The injured husband and wife were sent to the hospital for treatment. Local residents have demanded that the forested hill area be fully covered with fencing to prevent such incidents in the future. The factory management has appealed to vehicle drivers to maintain slow speeds on this road to ensure their own safety as well as the safety of wildlife.
