In a significant recovery drive, the Anti Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) of Raipur Police Commissionerate has traced
and recovered 100 lost mobile phones worth nearly Rs 20 lakh and returned them to their rightful owners.
The recovery operation was carried out under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Cyber), who instructed officials to intensify efforts to trace lost or stolen mobile devices reported by citizens. Acting on applications submitted by complainants, the specialised police team launched a focused campaign to track and retrieve missing phones through technical analysis and coordinated field efforts.
During the investigation, police tracked the devices across multiple locations not only within Chhattisgarh but also in several other States. The recovered phones were traced to users and locations in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Delhi and Bihar. Police officials said the team relied heavily on technical surveillance and digital tracking tools to identify the current users of the devices.
In several cases, once the individuals using the lost phones were informed that the devices had been reported missing, the phones were switched off immediately. The police team then coordinated with local law enforcement agencies in those States to verify the users and recover the devices. Several mobile phones were collected through police coordination across States, while some were sent to Raipur through courier after the users were informed that the devices were linked to missing complaints. After completion of verification procedures, the recovered devices were formally handed over to their owners at the cyber unit office. Officials said that since the beginning of 2026, the Anti Crime and Cyber Unit has successfully traced and returned 300 lost mobile phones worth around Rs 60 lakh to citizens. The Raipur Commissionerate Police has appealed to the public to immediately report lost mobile phones through the national CEIR
portal and contact the nearest police station or cyber cell to prevent misuse of the devices in criminal activities.
