Amidst ongoing crisis and supply chain being hit due to ongoing tension in the Middle-East, concerns are rising that opportunistic traders may exploit uncertain situation to make quick profits. Market observers say that whenever global instability affects supply chain or fuel prices, some traders attempt to manipulate local market by hoarding essential commodities and selling them at inflated rates. In recent days, reports from various markets suggest that certain traders are trying to take advantage of the situation by creating an artificial shortage of daily-use goods. Essential commodities such as cooking gas, fuel, food grains and other household items are particularly vulnerable to such practices. If left unchecked, this trend could cause inconvenience and financial strain for commoners. Pharma Stockist, Manoj Sharma, owner of Keshav Pharma, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that the distributors have already started sending messages of checking rate list before placing fresh supply order. They have increased the medicines’ price from 20 to 40 per cent in the name of increasing cost of imported raw materials.

However, Government and administrative authorities have assured that they are closely monitoring the situation. Officials have been instructed to keep a strict watch on supply chains, storage facilities and wholesale markets to prevent any form of black-marketing or hoarding. Surprise inspections and stock verification are also being carried out in some areas to ensure that traders do not manipulate prices or create unnecessary panic among public. Authorities have appealed to traders to maintain ethical business practices and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in black-marketing or hoarding essential commodities. At the same time, the administration has urged citizens not to panic-buy or stockpile goods unnecessarily, as availability of essential items remains stable for now. Experts believe that transparency in supply and strong monitoring by authorities will play a crucial role in preventing market manipulation.

While global tensions may create uncertainty, officials say coordinated efforts between Government agencies and responsible traders can help ensure that essential commodities remain accessible and affordable for the general public. One of the distributors, on condition of anonymity, said, “Due to ongoing market situation and global developments, we are experiencing significant increase in raw material prices, international shipping costs, US Dollar exchange rate etc. These factors are directly impacting overall supply chain and procurement costs across the markets. As result, there has been rise in product costs, therefore rates will be revised with immediate effect.”
