THE ongoing war in Middle East is utterly senseless, getting conducted by people of highly criminal mentality. Even those who are engaged in that war would not know the exact purpose for which they are unleashing upon the world so much violence, so much destruction. They are only using their weapons of destruction -- and their brains to know why at all they are doing all this. One after another, those warlords are bombing critical assets of their so-called enemies -- so much so that the oil refineries that are getting bombed would take months and months to be restarted plus countless billions lost in whatever currency. And even after that, those assets would be usable only to a limited extent. All-precious oil reserves -- that are common resource of mankind -- is getting bombed and pushing towards a near-total destruction.

 

Today, a war may be won or lost, but the humanity at large would lose its precious oil reserves and critical technological assets just because bunch of absolute madmen are engaged in wanton destruction. This is apart from the loss of innocent human lives The visuals of Middle East cities and towns getting bombed to near-total destruction and the helpless and hapless people running for (non-existent) cover, flooding out of cities and crowding into smaller towns and villages are far beyond ordinary human endurance. What a senseless war is this ! What are we going to achieve from this violence and destruction !

 

This is not just an empty verbalisation of the philosophy of peace. This is a universal anguish that the people in haloed chambers of power in world capitals never sense or see or hear or get traumatised with. But many countries just want Israel to be wiped out. Naturally, Israel should protect itself. Over time, many Muslim and Arab countries have come around to accept Israel’s existence. But there still are extremist elements -- in the Governments of Middle East countries and their terrorist outfits -- that just want Israel to be finished. And this sentiment -- they say -- is based on their religious teachings ! Can this ever be true ? Can there be a religion that wishes to see annihilation of followers of another faith ?What kind of world do we live in ? Is this what we all had bargained for say 60-70 years ago ? But if these issues somehow are diluted by effort, there are others whose economies thrive on weapons industry and therefore they want those weapons to be used all the time. And for that to happen, they need a war -- not today or yesterday or tomorrow, but every time, all the time. So, make money by making bombs and weapons. So, keep yourself in power by unleashing upon the powerless humanity your war power of bombs and weapons.

 

This is in the nutshell the meaning of the metaphor called war. Everything else -- the philosophies etc etc -- is nonsense. For, when some demonic humans are blinded by power and the accompanying arrogance and the attendant weaponry, no logic or good sense has any scope to prevail. Human history has seen many wars, and none of those wars has ever produced benevolent results -- including the so-called pious Mahabharat war that took place five thousand years ago. But the modern wars are proving to be far more disastrous and dangerous than all wars of the past -- thanks to the technology, and thanks to the cruelty those technologies bring along with them to flood the minds of those who have the power to abuse the raw power of weapons of mass destruction. We realise -- on the basis of our understanding of human progress -- that some wars are essential. But we also believe that most wars are avoidable. The current war in the Middle East -- as well as the one between Russia and Ukraine -- is fully senseless. It is not going to serve any purpose. But when somebody wants a Peace Nobel by waging wars, the world becomes speechless -- and helpless -- and very sad !
